Easy Grass Fed Salisbury Steak - a weeknight timesaver! 

Sometimes you just need a comforting mid-week meal that everyone can enjoy. When we think of comfort food our minds turn to childhood favorites. Dishes that may not be in vogue or play to food trends,  but invoke happy and comforting memories from simpler times. For us one of these iconic childhood meals is Salisbury steak. Beefy simple flavors highlighted by a rich brown sauce just begging for a side of mashed potatoes. Keep reading and see how easy it is to add our easy and affordable Salisbury steak recipe to your weeknight meal rotation.  

Salisbury Steak Recipe

Steak Ingredients:
1 lb Acabonac Farms ground beef or paleo grind
1/2 c bread crumbs
2 tbl tomato paste
1 tbl Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground pepper
1 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp onion powder

Gravy Ingredients:
1 medium yellow or sweet onion diced
1 cup (or 1 package) sliced white mushrooms
1/2 tsp dry thyme
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 tbl flour
3 c beef stock
1 tbl Worcestershire sauce
1 tbl butter
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
-place all steak ingredients in large mixing bowl and gently mix with clean hands until ingredients are fully combined
-form steak mixture into 5 oblong patties approximately 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick
-fry all five patties in large pan with a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat until cooked through and outside has browned (approximately 2-3 minutes per side)
-remove patties from pan, wipe out spent oil, replace with drizzle of new olive oil
-sauté diced onions until translucent (5-7 minutes)
-add mushrooms and cook until browned (mushrooms can be roughly chopped into small dice if you do not like the texture of mushrooms)
-add thyme, garlic powder and flour - stirring vigorously to distribute flour
-add beef stock and Worcestershire sauce - continuing to stir vigorously with whisk or fork to avoid lumps of flour forming
-allow gravy to come to boil and thicken (stirring continuously)
-set heat to low and whisk in butter until combined
-taste for salt and pepper
-add patties back to gravy and allow to warm through for a few minutes
-serve while warm
